Importance of risk management
While your core remit as a machine engineer is in the development of highly modern machines and production systems, as an operator you’re forever trying to upgrade your plants in an effort to keep pace with continuously increasing market requirements. As early as the construction phase, it is essential to identify hazards to persons and the environment and to institute suitable corrective measures. Your job in risk management therefore is about protecting all staff that come into contact with machinery from the associated hazards.
During the commissioning phase and beyond, such as after transfer to production, risks that may jeopardise the safety of your machinery must be identified. According to statutory requirements these risks must be mitigated as far as possible.
Big Data and Industry 4.0 offer new opportunities for system monitoring. But what should you be mindful of when monitoring your data? New technologies are making our day to day operations more flexible, e.g. remote monitoring and maintenance. But how do you protect yourself from cyber criminals and misuse?
